For too long, science has largely remained a domain of silence. Scientific researchers traditionally communicate within their own journals, where work is published according to strict conventions and specialist standards. These publications are often hidden behind paywalls and, even when accessible, tend to be dense and difficult to read for anyone outside a narrow expert community.

Fundamental research—primarily conducted within universities and public research institutes—rightly delves deep into disciplinary knowledge. That depth is essential. But an innovative society also depends on connectors: engineers, developers, and practitioners who integrate insights from multiple fields and translate them into real-world applications.

Beyond this integrative role, there is a broader responsibility: scientific knowledge must be interpreted, shared, and—crucially—placed within its societal context. Media outlets, both specialist and general, mainstream and independent, play a vital role in this process. They help bridge the gap between scientific insight and public understanding, between research outcomes and societal debate.

Alongside our own communication platforms, we collaborate with publishers such as Foodlog.nl and other media where scientific and technological insights are discussed openly and critically. Below is a selection of publications in which this work has appeared.
